Florida Storm Cleanup Planning: the essentials
Prepare for safe, organized debris handling after severe weather. Good preparation protects the property, keeps the work moving, and makes the final pickup easier to coordinate.
Start with these steps
- Photograph damage and follow local emergency guidance before cleanup.
- Keep vegetative debris separate when community collection requires it.
- Watch for downed lines, unstable trees, sharp material, and hidden hazards.
Make the plan fit the real site
Walk the route a delivery truck would use. Look for parked vehicles, narrow turns, soft ground, gates, roof overhangs, utility wires, branches, and anything else that could affect placement. The preferred spot should be firm, level, and accessible again when the container is full.
Communicate before loading
Waste rules vary by material and disposal facility. Describe the project accurately and ask before adding appliances, tires, roofing, concrete, soil, electronics, paint, chemicals, batteries, or other unusual items. Never place hazardous material in a general debris container.
Finish pickup-ready
Keep material below the top rail, distribute weight evenly, latch the loading door, clear loose debris around the container, and leave the truck approach open.
